More than a Conqueror…
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
The prophet Isaiah described what the Messiah would be like. First, Isaiah showed us that the Savior would be a child, a son. He would not be an angel or a spirit, but flesh and blood like us.
The government would rest on His shoulders—this verse is probably the reason the Israelites were hoping for a conquering king. But Jesus wasn’t confined to the role of an earthly king who would rule for a time and then pass his kingdom on to his successor; no, Jesus was King of kings and Lord of lords, who rules heaven and earth. Psalms says that He owns the cattle on a thousand hills—all that exists was made by Him anyway and it all belongs to Him.
He is wonderful, mighty, eternal—a prince whose primary quality is peace.
